History of Our Church
A brief history of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Holy Cross Lutheran Church was organized  in 1959 by the Georgia-Alabama Synod of the United Lutheran Church in America, a predecessor body of the LCA. The first church building was erected at 155 Alps Road in Athens, Georgia in 1961.  The first worship service was held on Easter Sunday of that year.  In 1977, ground was broken at the current location.  The dedication of our current building was held on November 19, 1977.  Since that time a Sunday School addition was added in 1985 and renovations to the worship space and the parking lot were completed in 1998.

In 1959, Pastor Arne K. Markland was installed as the first pastor of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.  Since then, Pastor Edward Breuer, Pastor Robert Hauss, Pastor Kenneth Morelock, Pastor Harvey Huntley, Pastor Cole Reasin, and Pastor James Clark served until our current Pastor, Reverend David Hart was installed on March 28, 1982.  After 26 years of faithful service and continued growth and ministry of the congregation, Pastor Hart retired on May 25, 2008.  Following a two year interim time served by  Pastor David Webb, the current minister, Pastor Norbert F. Hahn, began his service on July 18, 2010.
