Pray for our kids who are at AFFIRM Youth Camp at the University of North Alabama in Florence, AL this week!
Four hundred Lutheran youth from Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee gather for a week of worship, fellowship, large group and small group learning and fun every summer in Florence, Alabama. This unique youth camp called AFFIRM does just that, affirms each young person as a beloved child of God and a vital member of our church community. Staffed by pastors, youth leaders and other volunteer adults who love youth, the content of the week encourages young people to identify and celebrate their gifts as they learn to do their faith and become leaders in the church.
Youth participate in units based on their age and interests. Seventh graders are a part of Genesis, eighth through tenth graders participate in Missionaries, Journeys or Shepherds and older youth choose to be a part of Bridges, Exodus, Servants, Worshiptivity or Revelations. Each day follows a pattern of morning community time, large and small group time, afternoon free time, worship, evening community time and devotions in the dorms.
AFFIRM has a 35 year history in the Southeastern Synod. Many youth who have attended AFFIRM have gone on to become pastors and leaders in the ELCA. The ELCA church-wide Youth Ministry Office lists AFFIRM as one of the top three youth events in the nation! Learn more about AFFIRM here, and plan to sign up!
